Ausflug nach Wien / Trip to Vienna

Da Wien nur ca. 1 1/2 Stunden von mir entfernt ist, machte ich gestern einen Tagesausflug dorthin, um gemeinsam mit einer guten Freundin, zwei traditionelle Druckereien zu besuchen und die Stadt nach Information und Inspiration zu durchforsten :)

As Vienna is only 1 1/2 hours of driving away from me, I decided to go there yestersday and visit two traditional print shops and search the city for information and inspiration :)

Eine Druckerei,welche wir besuchten - Sladovsky - erlaubte uns in den "hinteren" Bereich zu gehen und die Druckmaschine und dessen Funktionsweise anzusehen. Sie verwenden dort eine Original Heidelberg und es war beeindruckend diese live und in Produktion zu sehen! Die Druckerei stellt auch eigens Druckplatten her. Ich denke, dass es dieselben Photopolymer Druckplatten sind, welche ich diese Woche von Boxcar Press bekommen werde. Nach dem Besuch der Druckerei freue ich mich noch mehr aufs Ausprobieren des Letterpress Drucks diese Woche!

One print shop that we visited - Sladovsky - allowed us to look "behind the scenes" and see their printing press. They are using an original Heidelberg and it was impressing to see the machine live and in action! The print shop also makes his own printing plates and I think they may be the same photopolymer plates that I'll get this week from Boxcar Press. After having visited the print shop I'm even more looking for to trying the letterpress print this week!

Ich besuchte auch das Julius Meindl Geschäft am Graben , wo es neben allen möglichen Lebensmitteln aus der ganzen Welt auch sehr schönes Verpackungsdesign zu finden gibt. Zu sehen am Beispiel der Julius Meindl Schokolade, die ich kaufen musste :)

I also visited the Julius Meindl shop, where you can not only find food from all over the world but also great packaging design. You can see that by looking at the example of the Julius Meindl chocolate that I had to buy :)



Ein Beispiel von gelungenem Branding findet man in der Rotenturmstraße im 1. Bezirk. An einem heißen Tag wie gestern kommen einem entlang dieser Straße andauernd Menschen mit Eis entgegen. Die Becher und Tüten tragen das Logo des Eissalons, nach dem man sofort Ausschau hält, da das Logo sehr ansprechend gestaltet ist. Der Salon nennt sich Eis Greissler und das Eis kommt von einem Bauernhof in Krumbach, Niederösterreich. Das Design des Logos, der Webseite und des Eisladens ist stimmig und zieht einen Passanten nach dem anderen in den Eissalon. Wirklich gelungen!
Habe herausgefunden, dass das Design von Catrin Krause / Reklame Salon stammt!

An example of great branding can be found in the Rotenturm-street in the 1st district of Vienna. On a hot day like yesterday, lots of people will pass with an ice cream in their hand. The cups and cones all have the logo of the ice cream parlor, which you're immediately looking for, because the logo's design is really appealing. The ice cream parlor is called "Eis Greissler" ("Greissler" means chandler or grocer in german) and the ice cream is made on a farm in the region of Lower Austria. The design of the logo, the website and the ice cream parlor are really coherent and harmonious and it pulls one customer by another into the parlor. Really great branding!
I found out that the designer of this great concept is Catrin Krause / Reklame Salon from Germany!
